Repair Theory: A Generative Theory of Bugs in Procedural Skills
This paper describes a generative theory of bugs. It claims that all bugs of D procedural skill con be derived by a highly constrained form of problem solving acting on incomplete procedures. These procedures are characterized by formal deletion operations that model incomplete learning and forgetting. The problem solver and the deletion operator have been constrained to make it impossible to d...
متن کاملDiagnosis of Subtraction Bugs Using Bayesian Networks
Diagnosis of misconceptions or ‘‘bugs’’ in procedural skills is difficult because of their unstable nature. This study addresses this problem by proposing and evaluating a probability-based approach to the diagnosis of bugs in children’s multicolumn subtraction performance using Bayesian networks. This approach assumes a causal network relating hypothesized subtraction bugs to the observed test...
متن کاملProcedural specificity in laparoscopic simulator training: protocol for a randomised educational superiority trial
BACKGROUND The use of structured curricula for minimally invasive surgery training is becoming increasingly popular. However, many laparoscopic training programs still use basic skills and isolated task training, despite increasing evidence to support the use of training models with higher functional resemblance, such as whole procedural modules. In contrast to basic skills training, procedural...
متن کاملEvaluation of Prosthetic Procedural Skills in Senior Dental Students Using the Self-Assessment Method
Introduction: Student self-assessment is one of the methods of assessing procedural skills that complements existing assessments in dentistry. This study was designed to evaluate prosthetic procedural skills in senior dental students using the self-assessment method. Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, the level of practical skills of 127 senior dental students of Yazd, Esfahan...
متن کاملFeasibility and acceptability of a structured curriculum in teaching procedural and basic diagnostic ultrasound skills to internal medicine residents.
BACKGROUND Point-of-care ultrasound has emerged as a powerful diagnostic tool and is also being increasingly used by clinicians to guide procedures. Many current and future internists desire training, yet no formal, multiple-application, program-wide teaching interventions have been described. INTERVENTION We describe a structured 30-hour ultrasound training course in diagnostic and procedura...
